Researchers in China, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, have developed a new wearable AI system to help blind and visually impaired people navigate independently and easily.
The system has a small camera, AI chip, and bone conduction headphones, all placed between the user’s eyebrows. The camera records live video, which the AI quickly processes.
Then, audio cues are sent through the headphones—without blocking outside sounds—to guide the user. It also gives real-time instructions using light vibrations and sound.
To choose a destination, users speak a voice command. The AI finds a safe path and gives only the key directions. Right now, it can recognize 21 everyday objects like chairs, beds, tables, sinks, TVs, and food—more are on the way.
